Welcome to Playing for Success with Saints RLFC

The Playing for Success Centre at Saints is an innovative, multimedia learning environment housed within the historic ground of Knowsley Road. Funded by The Department for Education, local government and in kind by St. Helens RLFC, Playing for Success offers free educational programmes across the borough including sports coaching, dance projects and term-long literacy based programmes.

St.Helens RLFC were one of the last clubs to join this most successful Playing for Success initiative in 2008. The Centre was officially launched by local MP Dave Watts on the 26 June 2009 although has been open to schools in the borough from October 2008.

The Centre is equipped with an array of technology, which altogether offers a different multimedia experience to that they may receive in schools. Despite the move to the new stadium which has obviously had it's restrictions on the development of the Centre we certainly boast the ‘best room’ in the Club and will continue to resource the facility setting the standard in preparation for the move in 2011.

In partnership with Saints RLFC, the independent charitable trust 'Saints Community Trust (SCDF)' addresses such topics as social inclusion, health promotion, sports coaching, anti racism, anti bullying, player development, local heritage and raising educational attainment by using rugby league as a tool to improving personal and social skills.

Each year the foundation formulates the delivery of projects that work directly with  more than 50,000 local young people.

Chatting with the Saints

Last week at the Playing for Success Centre, pupils were given the opportunity to improve their speaking and listening skills through an interview with members of the Saints first team. Pupils interviewed on camera and later put the footage together to create their own 'Saints Chat Show'. Take a look at some of the work they produced in the video above.

Dancing To Success

The girls from Rainhill, St Cuthbert's and Sutton High Sports College accessed boxercise and street dance sessions before Community Saints coach Claire Wellens put them through their paces at a half term dance and cheer camp.
