Information for Parents

If you are here because your son/daughter has been selected to attend the Playing for Success centre at Saints, then congratulations! Your child has been chosen to participate in a 10 week programme of study within the world famous St Helens RLFC. The programme consists of one  session of two and a half hours each week for the duration of the programme. The timings will be confirmed by your school but will usually run between 2.30-6.00pm. Transport to and from your school will be provided by the centre but parents will need to pick pupils up from school after the session.

During the programme of activities, pupils will have the opportunity to work with our fully trained members of staff and also some of the first team players. Activities will focus mainly on literacy but also aim to develop Numeracy and ICT.

The programme is funded by local government, the club and the DCSF and is completely free to all attending pupils.

Selection

Children are selected for the programme if their school feels that they:

  • Would be motivated by sport and Saints RLFC.
  • Would work better as part of a smaller group.
  • May benefit from additional support.
  • Their literacy skills could be enhanced within an alternative learning environment.
  • They are deserving of such an opportunity to work with the club and players.

Commitment

Pupils who attend the centre are very privileged to do so. Only 15 pupils are selected from each of  our partner schools each year, meaning that if your son/daughter has been selected they must be very deserving of such a sort after place. In return, all we ask is that attending pupils do their best to:

  • Attend all sessions.
  • Work to the best of their ability.
  • Work with others.
  • Show respect towards others.
  • Behave in a sensible manner both at the centre an during their transportation to and from it.
We understand that there will be occasions when circumstances prevent pupils from attending all sessions, but we do ask that both parents and pupils do their best to ensure these occasions are kept to a minimum.
